Snowflake Cookies

Baking decorated sugar cookies has become a holiday tradition in our household. We make hearts for Valentine's, eggs for Easter, stars for 4th of July, fall leaves for Thanksgiving and snowflakes for Christmas. My daughter is having her Christmas party for Daisy Scouts today, so of course I had to whip up a batch of sugar cookies. I found this recipe several years ago online and it is by far the best sugar cookie I've ever eaten. Give it a try...

1 cup butter
3 oz cream cheese
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour

Cream the butter, cream cheese and sugar (room temperature butter and cream cheese works best). Add the egg and vanilla and beat well. Add the flour gradually and mix well. Divide the dough into 3 balls and roll out between layers of parchment paper. Put rolled dough in refrigerator for about 1 hour. Cut out with cookie cutters and bake for 8-10 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

For the frosting, I use about 1 lb of powdered sugar. Add a dash of vanilla and gradually add water and mix until it gets to the consistency that you want. Coat cookies with frosting and decorate with sugar and any decorations you like.

F is for Flowers

I love flowers...roses, tulips, daisies, gardenias...I love them all! When I think of flowers, I usually think of bright colorful blooms. However, I found these floral beauties on Etsy that I really love for their more neutral subdued tones.

I absolutely love everything in Moxieandoliver's shop and I swear one day I am going to treat myself to one of their lovely leather items! This purse is an investment at $420, but you will no doubt love it and use it for many years to come.

These vintage framed floral prints from jenscloset are so sweet! These would make such a wonderful addition to your cottage decor and they are a steal at $12.50.

This little floral dress from aprilscott is adorable and would be so cute with a turtleneck and leggings for the winter. It is $34 and is available in sizes from newborn to 4T.

D is for Dragonfly

Here is a little dragonfly trivia for you. Did you know there are 457 known species of dragonflies? Observing dragonflies is a hobby popular in Texas, where 225 of the species have been observed. It seems they are not so popular in Europe...in fact they are thought to be very sinister. In European folklore they are often referred to as "devil's darning needle" and "devil's horse". I have to admit, real dragonflies creep me out a bit, but these dragonflies I love...

This is a beautiful vintage dragonfly pin from Onebuttonatatime. I love the filigree wings!

This tunic from Rainbowswirlz looks so comfy!! And it is a great deal at only $25.

Finally, these bronze dragonfly charms from Shareliving are too adorable! They would be really sweet on a charm bracelet...will have to add these to my supply wish list!

C is for Cottage

I love cottages! They are so sweet and homey and I dream of someday retiring with my hubby in a little cottage by the sea. But for now, I will admire some of the sweet cottages I found on Etsy.

This appliqued scarf by syko has me wishing for cold weather! How adorable is the little house...it even has a house number. There are several variations in her shop, but this was my favorite!

Oh, how I wish I could shrink myself and disappear into this beach house box by The Glittered Nest! It is in my favorite color and I love the tiny flowers surrounding it. This one just might have to come home with me!!

Host an Online Jewelry Party...Earn FREE JEWELRY!

I am now offering online jewelry parties through my online shop Out of the Blue. What's an online jewelry party you might ask? Well, it's just like a traditional jewelry party you would host in your home, but much more convenient! Instead of worrying about cleaning your house, serving refreshments, and then worrying whether anyone will show up...have your friends and family shop online at their convenience. Here's how it works:

1. Contact me via email at jjscott@cableone.net and tell me when you would like to host your party. Parties run for 7 days, starting on a Monday and ending on a Sunday.

2. I will forward you an invitation by email. You can either print them out and pass them out to your friends...or even better just email it to everyone.

3. Your friends will shop at their convenience and enter your hostess code at checkout so that you receive credit for their purchases. Your guests will receive a free pair of earrings with their purchase, free gift wrapping, and an entry into a drawing for $25 worth of jewelry.

4. When your party week is over, you will receive a credit equal to 20% of the jewelry sales to spend as you like in my shop. You will also receive a free pair of earrings and an additional $5 in jewelry for each new party booked from your show.

I am so happy to be a member of Etsy Texas Crafters, an amazingly supportive group of Etsy sellers that call the Lone Star state their home! The first Monday of each month, we get together and help promote one another and have fantastic specials throughout our shops. You can find a list of this month's participants here...
http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5699895

My sale for this month is 25% off everything in my shop. To receive the discount, add items to your cart and checkout...but don't pay through Paypal until I send you a revised invoice. Come shop with E.T.C. for some Texas size deals!!

B is for BIRDS!

Among the trees
Is a bird's nest,
And in the nest
Her three eggs rest.

And in each egg--
Hush, you'll be heard!--
There lies asleep
A tiny bird.

Browsing through Etsy, you will find birds everywhere...here are some of my favorites.

A pair of sweet vintage bird figurines from ModishVintage.

My name is Jerin, and I'm a supply addict

Ok, I admit it! I am totally addicted to buying supplies...acceptance is the first step, right? I don't think I'll ever be able to make a profit with my business, because as soon as I get a big sale, I immediately start buying up new supplies. I can't help it...it's so much fun. As you know, I absolutely love vintage supplies so my recent shopping spree this past week includes lots of vintage goodies. This photo shows just a sampling of the supplies I just got. Some of my favorites are the big black and white enameled buttons in the center, and the pressed plastic dangles with the fleur de lis pattern. These are so unusual, I can't wait to figure out what to do with them :) Keep an out out in my shop Out of the Blue to see some of my new supplies being put to good use!

Flowers from my Hubby

I'll admit my husband's idea of romance is usually polar opposite of what I would like it to be. His idea of affection is a slap on the rear and a not so subtle sexual reference. However, his greatest romantic gesture is bringing home fresh flowers for me once a week. He absolutely LOVES buying flowers!! Sometimes its tulips, sometimes gerber daisies, but most often it is roses. These are the latest ones he brought home...they are a beautiful pale yellow with coral colored tips. They are so pretty! So even though he leans more towards caveman than Casanova most of the time, I always have a sweet reminder of my dear husband every time I look at my fresh bouquets!
